3 min readA week of links golf in the west: Lahinch, Doonbeg, Ballybunion and WatervilleFour links courses on the west coast fit into one week with a single driver. Lahinch is 1 h 10 min from Shannon Airport, a 20 minute car ferry joins the Clare courses to the Kerry ones, and Waterville is 1 h 30 min from Kerry Airport. In our own bookings and enquiries, these are four of the courses golfers ask for most: Doonbeg 19 times, Lahinch 11, Ballybunion 8 and Waterville 7.Read the answer
3 min readHow to get from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher (and whether to do it in a day)The Cliffs of Moher are on the Atlantic edge of County Clare, right across the country from Dublin, and the day trips from Dublin we found advertised run from 9 h 45 min to 12 hours. Our own day tours are planned at 8 hours at most, so we do not sell Dublin and back as one day. Two plans work better: a night in the west, or a one-way transfer followed by the cliffs from Shannon.Read the answer
3 min readShannon or Dublin: which airport to fly into for the west of IrelandFor the west of Ireland, Shannon is the shorter landing: the Cliffs of Moher are 1 h 10 min from the terminal and Galway 1 h 20 min, against 2 h 15 min from Dublin Airport to Galway. In our own bookings and enquiries, Shannon Airport comes up 392 times as a pickup or drop-off, Dublin Airport 127. Dublin wins when the flight times or the fares are better, and then the drive west is one transfer in one car.Read the answer
4 min readHow long do you need at the Cliffs of Moher? Two hours is enough for most visits. The official ticket covers a 2 hour visit from your time of entry, and the walk the official site recommends is a 3.5 km round trip, north past O'Brien's Tower and south to the viewing platform. Two hours is also the time our full-day tour gives the cliffs.Read the answer
4 min readRing of Kerry in a day: which direction, how long, where to stopThe Ring of Kerry is a loop of 179 km around the Iveragh Peninsula, by Discover Ireland's measure, and Discover Kerry puts the drive at 3 to 4 hours without a single stop. With stops it fills a day, and our touring day from Killarney runs up to 8 hours. In summer the tour coaches go round anticlockwise, Killorglin first, which Kerry County Council says is to avoid meeting on the narrow sections.Read the answer
3 min readGetting around the west of Ireland without a carWe checked the public transport on 14 of our routes against the Bus Éireann, Aircoach, Dublin Coach and Irish Rail timetables in October 2026. Six of them need a change, and four of those six changes happen in Limerick. Where the bus runs direct, the main corridors are well served: 24 departures a day from Shannon Airport to Limerick, and 14 a day between Galway and Ennis.Read the answer
